PCS Internet is now offering DSL to it's customers in Ottumwa and Qwest
515/641 service area.
In order to receive DSL, your phone line must be tested to see if it
qualifies for DSL. Please give us a call or come in to our office and we
can test the phone line for you. If your line qualifies, we can place the
order to have Qwest convert your existing phone line into a Phone/DSL
circuit. Once this has happened, you will be able to connect a DSL modem to
your phone line and have high speed internet available and still use your
phone.
DSL modems are available for purchase for $69.99, you may also choose to
rent the modem from PCS, by renting the modem, if the modem ever stops
working, or needs to be replaced because of a new update from Qwest, PCS
will supply you with a new modem right away. If you purchase the modem, and
the above happens, you would have to purchase a new modem. DSL modem rental
is available for $5.00/month.

In order to be able to qualify for DSL, you must currently be a Qwest "local
phone service" customer. If you have switched to Iowa Telecom, McLeod, or
another provider, you can still get PCS DSL, however there is an $18.00 per
month additional charge applied by Qwest. This is for local phone service
NOT long distance.
Most of those who have recently returned to Qwest in order to receive the
best cost for DSL service have found Qwest offering as much as 3 months FREE
and 4 cents per minute long distance. You will have to call Qwest directly
and negotiate your best deal for your phone service.
PCS offers 2 different DSL plans, we have a 256kb service that is
$34.95/month, and a 1.5mb plan that is $52.95/month.
These prices do not include modem rental, currently the way Qwest has their
service setup you will pay the Qwest portion of the charges on your monthly
Qwest bill. PCS will bill you separately for the Internet Service Provider
fees.
The DSL modem that PCS is providing through the modem rental plan is also a
wireless router, and has 2 connections to connect PC's directly. A switch
or hub can also be added to add additional wired connections. In order to
use the wireless router, a wireless access card must be installed into each
PC that will be connected via wireless.
Customers choosing to purchase their own modems, PCS will only provide phone
support for the modems that are on the list of compatible modems. If you
purchase a DSL modem that is not on the list of compatible modems, PCS will
not be able to provide free support for connection and modem issues.
PCS highly recommends only purchasing a DSL modem that is on the list of
compatible modems.

Customers who have more than one phone line should have the DSL service
added to their primary phone line, this will allow you to discontinue the
phone service on additional lines if you wish. DSL circuits are able to be
used as a normal phone line even while using the internet.
Please call for further details on this installation. We have a system in our office
set up and configured with DSL for demonstration purposes. Feel free to stop by and try it out for yourself.
